WE TAKE CARE OF THE ENVIRONMENT ON A DAILY BASIS
A responsible approach to the environment is a critical and inseparable part of Lydian’s activities in Armenia. Environmental awareness and environmental protection are principal parts of the Company’s culture. Lydian has developed environmental policies and procedures which ensure that all of its operations are fully compliant to local and international standards and to World best practice.
Lydian undertakes all of its activities in accordance with Armenian environmental legislation and is committed to good international industry practices in all aspects of its operations including production, sustainability, and corporate social responsibility. Where multiple standards exist, Lydian strives to apply the highest standards.
Two National Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA’s) have been completed over the Amulsar project. The first was conducted in 2009 in order to support Mining License application and in accordance with Armenian legislation, a second EIA was completed in 2010 to assess the impact of exploration activities at Amulsar.
In 2010 Lydian commenced a Bankable Feasibility Study (BFS). Wardell Armstrong International (WAI) was contracted to undertake this study. In parallel to the BFS, WAI is also completing an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) meeting National, International and IFC standards.
The first step in the ESIA was a detailed Scoping Assessment, the results of which were shared through public consultation meetings in impacted communities in May 2011. The ESIA was completed in May 2015 and is being shared with communities by public hearings and consultations.
